March Associates was contracted by the GIZ-funded Green Innovation Centres for the Agriculture and Food Sector (GIC) Project to undertake a Drought Response Survey in the Eastern and Southern Provinces of Zambia. The objective of the survey was to assess the impact of the drought on agricultural productivity and income of smallholder farmers covering the 2023/2024 agricultural season. Survey activities included review and adaptation of the questionnaires, development of the qualitative interview guides, training of research assistants, data collection (qualitative and quantitative), data analysis, report writing, and presentation of main findings.

The BCP contracted March Associates in November 2024 to undertake the Luangwa Community Forest Project (LCFP) and Lower Zambezi Red Plus (RED+) Project 2024 Income Perception Follow-Up Survey in Luangwa, Rufunsa, and Kafue Districts. Survey activities included review and adaptation of the quantitative questionnaires, development of the qualitative interview guides, training of research assistants, quantitative data collection involving 183 household and qualitative interviews, data analysis, and report writing.

March Associates was contracted by the BioCarbon Partners (BCP) in 2024 to undertake the Baseline Social Monitoring Survey (SMS) for the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation Plus (REDD+) Projects – Kafue Zambezi Community Forest Project (KZCFP) in 16 districts of Western Province of Zambia. Survey activities included review and adaptation of the questionnaires, development of the qualitative interview guides, training of research assistants, quantitative data collection involving 4,112 sampled households and qualitative interviews, data analysis and report writing.

March Associates was contracted by the BioCarbon Partners (BCP) to undertake the 2022 social monitoring survey. The main objective of the consultancy was to assess community perceptions and household income from participation in BCP’s reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation plus (REDD+) projects – Luangwa community forests project (LCFP) and Lower Zambezi REDD+ project (LZRP). For both the LCFP and LZRP data was collected from 500 households in 18 chiefdoms. The key research activities included, data collection/analysis and writing of two reports.
